Don't let developers do away with our best natural resource
Atlanta has no river front, no ocean,
no mountains. The best natural resource
going for us are the trees. We have to quit sacrificing them on the altar of
developers for the sake of progress.
Since I moved back to Atlanta and
into the Northlake area, I have seen acres and acres of residential trees clear cut and wiped
clean with only a few token pitiful stragglers on the edges.
The developers are in business to
make money. They have to be. Most, but not all, of them think the cost of
saving trees is not worth the expense.
It's a lot easier for them to
bulldoze everything and plant a few trees. It will only take 20 or 30 years to
fill in. They leave when the homes are sold. New buyers are clueless as to what
had been there.
Atlanta is rapidly being turned
into a wasteland by people who want to turn a profit as cheaply as possible.
They think that we don't care. We need to let them know that we do. Our trees
are the best things Atlanta has going for it. Don't bulldoze them.
